Bernard David Allen son of the late Dan Wiiliams and Laura Ellen Allen was born March 12, 1923 in King George, Va. He departed this life on Saturday January 24, 2004 at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, Va., after a long illness. Bernard served his country in the United States Army and was a honorably discharged veteran. He worked as a carpenter's helper and as a laborer for many years. He was one of the builders of Ralph Bunche High School in 1949. He took great pride in being the last person to leave the building upon completion and he polished the knob on the door. He was preceded in death by his wife the late Flossie Elizabeth Campbell Allen, his daughter Martha Ellen Allen and grandaughter Sacha (dada) Allen. He leaves to cherish his memory eight daughters Grace Johnson, Dorothy, Peggy and Pam Allen, and Carrie Rich, all of King George and Debra Allen, Selestine Jeter and Louise Pitts, all of Washington; three sons, Howard and Earl Allen, both of King George and Charles Robinson of Washington; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. One Aunt Francis Allen, one Uncle, Deacon John Allen, one brother and sister-in-law Robert and Elizabeth Pike, a daughter-in-law, Shiela Allen and a son-in-law, Charles Rich.
