On February 25, 2012 Arthur Roosevelt Sizer, Sr. went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family. One of 13 children, Arthur was born on June 6, 1919 to the late Arthur James Sizer and Ina Taylor Sizer. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Arthur attended Ebenezer Baptist Church School and then began working at his father's saw mill in the Chilesburg area.
A World War II veteran, Arthur served almost 5 years in the United States Army with tours in England, Africa, and Italy. He achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant.
On June 7, 1947 he was joined in holy matrimony to Lillian Richardson. To this union 3 children were born: Baby Boy Sizer, Paulette Sizer Davis and Arthur Roosevelt Sizer, Jr.
Arthur was employed for 25 years at FMC in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he worked until his health began to fail. Although he retired, he loved to work around the house on various projects such as painting, gardening, doing yard work, cutting grass, and helping out in the neighborhood. If he happened to have a bucket of paint- look out, he would paint anything in his path.
Arthur had a sense of humor and a quick wit that endeared him to family and friends. He loved to "talk trash" and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Over the years Arthur had many nicknames which included: "Sugar Tree", "Cowboy", "Uncle Dead Horse", "Bill", "Uncle Bill", and "Lil' Arthur". He also had many colorful nicknames he called his family and friends.
Arthur is preceded in death by his son Baby Boy Sizer, his father and Mother Arthur and Ina Sizer and 11 siblings.
