Arnetia Virginia Gaines

Arnetia Virginia Johnson Gaines was born on August 10, 1924 to the late Alexander and Arnetia Duke Johnson of Hustle, Virginia. On Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 2:30 am, God called her home to enter into eternal rest.

Arnetia was lovingly known as Virginia or by her nickname Shinny. Virginia married Morrell C. Gaines, Sr. and resided in her hometown of Hustle, Virginia. This matrimonial union lasted for an astounding sixty-five (65) years. They were blessed with the birth of two children of which she cherished and loved so dearly.

Virginia accepted the Lord and Jesus Christ at a very early age. She was baptized at First Baptist Loretta Church in Loretta, VA and later joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hustle, VA where she worked diligently as one of God�s faithful servants.

Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her immediate and extended families meant the world to her. For years, her house was the nucleus for the church annual homecoming celebrations in the month of August. She would have so many family members staying at her home until we all nicknamed it the rubber house for she would make room wherever she could so that all the guest who stayed there would be comfortable.

Everyone always anxiously awaited her much talked about fantastic breakfast meals. She would always get up very early in the mornings to start the meal preparation, while others slumbered and slept.

Virginia leaves an endless amount of fond memories to her husband-Morrell Gaines, Sr.; two children Morrell Gaines, Jr. and Charlene Gaines-Graham; one son-in-law Michael Graham; one daughter-in-law Cheryl Berry Gaines; three grandchildren Cherelle Gaines, Kierra Graham and Chanelle Gaines; one brother James Johnson; three sisters Mariah Fletcher, Blanche (Romaine) Henry and Florine Moss; three brother-in-laws and seven sister-in-laws;a godson Vincent Jordan and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
