Annie Laura Ferguson

On Tuesday, November 27, 2007, after a long illness, Annie Laura Ferguson passed from this earthly realm and went to be with the Lord. She was born on August 2, 1914, one of eight children born to Lou and Lewis Beverly of Bowling Green, Virginia.

She was educated in the Caroline County(VA) public school system. Anna Laura Beverly was joined in marriage with the late Walker Ferguson and eight children were born of the union.

Annie Laura accepted Christ at an early age and diligently served Him in her Church until her health failed. She was a Deaconess as well as a member of the Missionary Ministry and the Flower Club. Every week, she would joyfully obtain fresh flowers and arrange them in the Church). She served as Captain of the Homecoming Fundraiser Committee for over 25 years. Whenever she was needed in the Church or in the community, Annie Laura would cheerfullly volunteer her help. Even when she could no longer get to Church, she continued to faithfully praise Him in song and scripture.

After years of hard work providing for and otherwise taking care of her family, Annie Laura was able to retire and pursue the activities which fulfilled her already accomplished life. She took great joy in tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved to read, travel with her family and to participate in the activities of her Senior Citizens's Club. Another one of her pleasing past times was watching Star Trek and Lawrence Welk on television. Whenever the weather permitted, one could quite frequently find her sitting peacefully on the porch, enjoying the fresh air.

Annie Laura Ferguson was considered the community ambassador and many in her neighborhood would seek her out for advice, encouragement or merely her amicable companionship. With her beautiful smile and convincing spirit, she continuously encouraged many to attend Church, to vote or to join her Senior Citizens Club. Although very honestly outspoken, it was always a pleasure to be in her company.

In her later years, she took care of two aging sisters, Mildred and Mary Lou, until they went on to be with the Lord.

Loving memories of Annie Laura will continue to live on in the hearts of surviving family members, who include four daughters; Eleanor Queen and Frances Coldman(Thomas) of Bowling Green, Va, Mary L. Williams of Durham, NC, and Gloria Gray(Michael) of Fredericksburg, Va, and one son, Anthony (Tony) Ferguson of Bowling Green, Va.; Three children preceded her in going home, John Ferguson, Arthur Lee Ferguson and Carol B. Ferguson; Her legacy also includes 26 grandchildren (along with several great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren), and two nieces, Doris James and Mary Stephens(Harold); and one daughter-in-law, Bernice Ferguson. Among those who were drawn to her endearing charm are her special friends, Margie Martin, Rita Braxton, Deacon James Berry and Lavare Minor. She also enjoyed the friendship of lots of good folks at Town and Country Healthcare and the Rivers Health Care Center.
