Anna M. Ellis

God in his love and mercy called to rest Anna M. Ellis, born, April 29, 1929 in Washington, DC to the late John W. and Ida Thompson. Anna was preceded in death by her adopted sisters, Mary Lawson, Emma Turner, Gertrude Smith and brother, Robert Thompson.

Anna grew up in Westmoreland County and attended the public schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, VA.

In 1970, Anna was employed as the custodian of the King George Courthouse. Anna was a very familiar face to many who visited the courthouse and was seen smiling as she strolled down the halls for thirty-two years, until her retirement. Anna was very well loved by all of the employees of the courthouse and the Office of Billingsley and Snead. After the death of her first husband, Bennie Williams, employees within the various offices helped Anna in many ways. She was loved beyond measures. Anna was like a family member to everyone. She loved to talk about how special everyone made her feel on her birthday, by sharing gifts, and welcoming her into their homes. She went on vacation with many, and especially loved her trips to Florida and California. Anna loved to ride and go shopping, always buying small gadgets and toys, and getting a newspaper from different areas she visited. Anna was a volunteer for King George Parks and Recreation for approximately ten years and also a member of the Optimist Club.

Anna made it known that her first love was to be faithful in serving God. She was seen many nights leaving the courthouse with her usher uniform and heading out to First Baptist to serve. On the next day she would share the message from church and talk about the glorious time she had in service.

In 1999, Anna began a new chapter in her life when she fell in love and married Earnest Ellis. She was excited that she had someone to share her Christian journey and a new family to call her own. Anna enjoyed her retirement with her husband and spoke of the love for his children and grandchildren.

In September, 2008, Anna's health began to fail and she was taken in by a very special care giver, Leslie Beale. Anna spent her final days at the Bowling Green Health Care Center until God called her home.

Anna leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Earnest, a God daughter and niece, Carolyn Lawson, Step Children and Grandchildren, cousins and numerous family and friends. A special devoted friend, Deaconess Marilyn Tolliver Johnson.
