Anitra Pollard Martin entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2021 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born to Tyrone and Rowena Pollard on March 14, 1975 in Fredericksburg, VA.
Anitra accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of Salem Baptist Church in Jersey, VA. She sung in the Sacred Hearts Youth Choir, served as an Usher and as a Secretary of the Sunday School. Anitra continued in her walk of faith closer to home, as a regular attender of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, VA.
Anitra graduated from King George High School in 1993. During her school years, her passion for singing led her to become a member of the KGHS Select Choir for several years. In addition to singing in the Select Choir, Anitra relished in her time spent as part of the traveling “Believers Because” drama and singing group led out of Oakland Baptist Church, Dahlgren, VA.
Upon graduation, Anitra enrolled in the Blue Ridge Job Corp Center in Marion, VA where she studied to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Her CNA career led her to work at nursing homes in Fredericksburg and Maryland to include, Westmorland Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Heartfields, Paramount and Woodmont Senior Living, and University of Maryland, Charles Regional Medical Center (formerly known as Civista Medical Center). Anitra wholeheartedly embraced her career as a CNA for many, many years until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She typically worked the night shift hours, serving her patients with the highest level of care and sensitivity. Her love of singing bubbled over into her CNA career as well. Anitra often talked about patients who would request her to sing for them, many times in their final hours of life. One of the songs that she would sing for residents, that she learned in Sacred Hearts is, “He’ll Always Say I Forgive.”
Anitra married the love of her life, Bryan Martin on May 25, 2002. Together she and Bryan were a match to be reckoned with. Their life together was full of countless, adventurous moments that they enjoyed retelling. These stories would always have their family laughing in stitches. One of the highlights in their relationship was their history of traveling adventures, several of them which they shared with their tour guides, Ryan and sister-in-law, Beverly. Their travels took them to Disneyworld, New York, Canada and to tropical locations on cruises. Anitra also absolutely loved her special lunch and dinner dates with her friends. She spoke of those cherished moments and friendships often.
Anitra’s passion to care for people will leave a lasting impression in the hearts of her family members. She had a unique gift to care for the elderly. God gave Anitra the opportunity to be there for her mother-in-law only three months ago in October 2020, just before she unexpectedly passed away. Even in death Anitra’s declaration of being an organ donor expresses how Anitra loved to unselfishly care for others.
Anitra is preceded in her death by her mother-in-law, Joyce A. Martin. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her loving husband, Bryan Martin, Colonial Beach, VA; her father, Tyrone Pollard and mother Rowena Pollard of King George, VA; two sisters, Marlene Vessels-Austin (Darryl) of Newport News, VA; Lorra Jordan (Leon) of King George, VA; two brothers, Ryan Pollard (Beverly) of Baltimore, MD, Marcus Pollard of North Hollywood, CA; father-in-law, Walter A. Martin Sr.; one God-daughter, Nichelle Rankins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and church family.
