Amanda Leigh Lewis

Amanda Leigh Lewis, affectionately known as “Mandy” and “Boo Boo” was born on January 1, 1971 to Ida C. Lewis and Herbert S. Byrd at Mary Washington Hospital and transitioned on April 26, 2020 at Inova Hospital, Alexandria.
She was educated in the Spotsylvania County School Systems and graduated from Courtland High School in 1988. She also received a technical certificate from the Computer Learning Center where she graduated with honors. She was a dedicated member of Piney Branch Baptist Church, where she was baptized at an early age. Her love for God motivated her to work diligently in the Church. While serving at Piney Branch, she was involved with the Youth Council and was a long time member of the Usher’s Ministry. She was the Valedictorian of her Usher’s class and was the past Junior Supervisor of the ICUA of Virginia, Inc. Junior and Young People’s Department. Mandy loved to sing and was active in the music ministry, serving on several different choirs and also directing one of the youth choirs. Her passion for singing afforded her an opportunity to direct the young adult choir at a National Convention. She was a member of the Praise Dance Ministry and was the Supervisor of the Young Adult Usher’s. She also taught Sunday school, Bible Study and coordinated Vacation Bible School, before becoming ill.
Mandy enjoyed cooking, crafting, shopping and planning events. She also had a knack for hair styling. She had a passion for children and it was not unusual to see her embracing, loving and caring for children other than her own. You could always count on her to lend a helping hand and offer her services when needed, no matter the task. She had a smile that could light up a room and infectious energy that her family and friends loved to be around. She enjoyed cookouts and was the first on the dance floor when any line dance music was played.
Her father, Herbert Byrd and brother, Eddie Ford, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother Ida Lewis, daughter Kamren Lewis and her father Thomas Truslow, son Leon James Carter III “LJ” and devoted companion Leon James Carter, Jr. “Jamie”. 11 siblings, Kensey “Mac” Lewis, Barbara Lewis, Lee Lewis, Delorse Parker (Sam), Gary Lewis, David Lewis (Debra “Debbie”), Dennis Lewis, Sandra Willis (David), Karen Smith (Van “Banny”), Carolyn Brooks (Cedell) and Valerie Ford. 5 nieces; Veronica, Robinette, Cayla, Precious and Lillian, 5 nephews; Franklin, Marcus, Elton, David “Iggy”, and Dennis Jr “DJ”, 5 great nieces; Zenia, Aliyah, Shanell, Amia and Taija, 4 great nephews; Shakeem, Desean, Jaydon and Lenny, one goddaughter, Ashlei Burnett and one godson Jaydon Lewis, her 3 faithful friends Phyllis Williams, Kim Washington and Delores Phillips and a host of cousins.
