Althena Harris stepped into the dawn of a brand new day as she answered the call of the Lord Jesus Christ at Cardinal Village in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Monday, September 2, 2019.
Althena was born on July 8, 1940 to the late James T. and Laura Bell Harris. Althena was the oldest of eight children. She attended public school in Essex County, Virginia. Althena received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Virginia Union University and her Masters of Education from University of Virginia. Althena was an educator for over 40 years teaching in Caroline County Public Schools, Fauquier County Public Schools, and Prince William County Public Schools. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior; was baptized and joined New Liberty Baptist Church Milford, Virginia. Althena was President of the Mattaponi Women’s Missionary & Education Convention and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Manassas Chapter.
Athena had four siblings that preceded her in death, Earl Harris, Don Harris, Clara Byrd, and Maryann Taylor. She leaves to cherish her loving memories two brothers Levi Harris(Helen) of Lorton, Virginia and Rex Harris(Tinka) of Milford, Virginia; one sister Ernestine Newbill of Tappahannock, Virginia; and one sister-in-law Eartha Harris of Woodbridge, Virginia; one uncle Thomas Pratt of Tappahannock, Virginia; two aunts Mabel Tyler of Woodstown, New Jersey and Frances Pratt of Tappahannock, Virginia; two god sons Terrell Newbill and Johnny Newbill, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
